Measures of muscular strength and endurance were used in 28 studies, with 82% (23 out of 28) showing significant positive changes. Additionally, 89% (8 out of 9) of the studies that measured balance reported significant positive changes. Similar positive results were found in studies that measured cognitive ability, with 80% (8 out of 10) reporting significant positive changes. Finally, the single study that measured cardiovascular endurance also reported significant positive changes.

Participation and attrition rates were also examined. Only 6 studies reported on participation, and these studies found low attrition rates, indicating that older adults tend to be committed and maintain their involvement in dance activities.
